Victorian Period Home Renovation

Mastercraft Construction were approached by the owners looking to restore the front facade of this beautiful old Melbourne period home located in Hawthorn. Built in the early 1900’s this iconic Melbourne home has undergone renovations too the original and extensions to the rear of the home over the years. It was with great pleasure we accepted the offer to tender restoring this iconic Hawthorn home.

This grand old house was built on bluestone footings and retains many of it’s original Victorian period era features like double skin solid red brickwork, slate tile roof, bay windows with double hung windows, feature timber gables, tessellated tile front porch, wrought iron lacework, bullnose verandah with lead flashings.

Original tessellated tiles and concrete was cut up and removed from the front porch. We excavated out by hand carefully not to disturb the original blue stone footings to pour a thicker concrete slab with bored piers for a new tessellated tile feature floor.

All rotten gable end feature timbers were carefully removed from the home and replicated with treated timbers for rot resistance for years to come.

Verandah to front entry had the bullnose roof sheeting removed and replaced, lead ridge capping and flashings were all custom fabricated and rolled on site. Rotten fret work and feature timbers were sourced and machined to restore this verandah back to it’s former glory.
